About the live album

Nirvana's MTV Unplugged performance, recorded on November 18, 1993, is one of the most iconic live sets in rock history. Departing from typical Unplugged shows, the grunge band chose a subdued, haunting setlist that included lesser-known Nirvana tracks, covers of artists like David Bowie, Lead Belly, and The Vaselines, and only a few of their biggest hits. The intimate, candle-lit stage and Kurt Cobain’s raw, emotional vocals gave the performance a poignant atmosphere, especially in hindsight, as it aired just months before his death in April 1994. The resulting album, MTV Unplugged in New York, was released posthumously and earned critical acclaim.
